Bipartisan paid family leave

By Patrick F. Bloniasz - Brookline | Jul 4, 2020

New Hampshire needed paid leave prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s clear we need it even more in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. When New Hampshirites need to take time off due to a serious medical issue or to take care of a child, spouse, or parent’s critical medical situation, they often have to take unpaid time off or even quit their jobs. Such a disruption can cause serious and unnecessary economic strain on the hard working individuals and families of our state. In a year of global health crisis and extraordinary economic uncertainty, New Hampshire needs paid leave more than ever.

Last year, Governor Sununu vetoed legislation that would have provided New Hampshire residents with paid leave. This week, Governor Sununu has the chance to reverse this decision and help provide New Hampshire residents the help and stability they deserve by signing House Bill 712. HB712 is a bipartisan bill that would give New Hampshire residents three months of paid family medical leave. I urge Governor Sununu to sign HB712 and give NH residents the paid leave they deserve!
