Should we defund the local police?

By Norman Blanchette - Nashua | Jun 27, 2020

Real government statistics does not support the charges that there’s an epidemic of white cops killing unarmed black men. Statistically more white men are killed by white cops. Speaking of real statistics black men are more likely to be killed by other black men. But facts can be inconvenient when they don’t support the narrative of the day. So were going to put society through a meat grinder and see what comes out the other end.

So now the calls to defund the police department is being heard across the country. I say if we defund the police department every taxpaying citizen gets a check from the government to be use at the nearest gun shop. That is if you can find a gun to purchase. Once again gun sales are through the roof. Has anybody thought this through? Who do you call if someone is coming through your back door at 2 in the morning? A counseling service?

I don’t know anybody that has come to the defense of the policeman we saw on the video putting his knee to the neck of George Floyd. There was universal condemnation. There was real unity on that issue. Yet we still hear no justice no peace. No Justice? The officers involved have been arrested and changed. Justice will take place in a court of law in the coming months.

Meanwhile the familiar phrase that we must end racism in America is once again front and center even if it means ripping the very fabric of our society apart. I don’t believe we will ever end racism. Racism has been around since the dawn of man. You can’t pass laws to change what’s in somebody’s heart. That’s where racism lives. There are bad people in society doing bad things. That hasn’t changed since our early ancestors started walking upright. But you can pass laws to protect citizens from racism. And we have. And we need the police to help enforce those laws. But if we tie the hands of our local police force and make it impossible for them to do their job, we’ll end up looking like Baltimore after the Freddie Gray riots a few years back where homicides spiked to levels unseen in that city’s history.
