Sununu appointments

By Linda Mattlage - Concord | Jun 20, 2020

Gov. Chris Sununu’s recent nomination of Ryan Terrell to the State Board of Education is another example of his penchant for nominating unqualified people to important positions. Mr. Terrell sounds like an amazing person, but by his own honest admission he doesn’t know much about education or the workings of the Board. Of course this is consistent with the governor’s appointment of Frank Edelblut as Commissioner of Education, a commissioner whose major goal seems to be the undermining of the public schools.

Then there was the nomination last year of Attorney General Gordon MacDonald to be Chief Justice of the state supreme court. Mr. MacDonald is an excellent attorney but has had no judicial experience and the Executive Council correctly rejected his nomination. One year later the governor still has not nominated someone else, even though there are a number of excellent candidates, some of them from his own party. Will it take that long to nominate someone else to the Board of Education? These are necessary positions which need to be filled in a timely manner. One can only speculate on the delay. Maybe Chris Sununu is not the great governor you think he is.
