To our community

By Nashua Area Interfaith Council Executive Board - | Jun 6, 2020

The Nashua Area Interfaith Council (NAIC) is deeply saddened by the tragic, senseless, and horrific death of George Floyd, and so many others before him. We cannot be silent during this time and instead must use our collective voice to let our community know that the faith communities in Greater Nashua will not stand by and let injustice happen without expressing outrage and the need to seek change from all of us to make this world a better place for all people. This death should not have happened at the hands of four law enforcement officers whose primary job is to serve and protect. Their actions represent the worst of humanity. While these officers certainly do not represent all police officers, we know that if more cultural diversity training and education does not happen across this country, this racist and inhumane behavior will continue by some, and it needs to stop now!

As a faith community we want to believe in the best of humanity but know that we must speak out when we see injustice. The brutality that continues to happen to our Black brothers and sisters, especially black men and boys needs to stop! All faith traditions teach love, kindness, humility, and the willingness to seek forgiveness and to create positive change – change that puts all people on an equal footing, sees the beauty in all, and embraces all colors, faiths, identities, and individualities that make each of us a unique and special person.

We are praying for George Floyd, his family, and all families who have experienced racism and tragedy by those who see all difference as divisive rather than as what ultimately makes our world richer and more vibrant. We are also asking those who have white privilege to stand up and say no to these injustices and to start being a change for good. When you see something that is wrong, speak up, whether in conversations with others or when you see brutality happening in front of you. Be strong and love your neighbors, let all people know that greater Nashua and the State of NH are a place of love, kindness, and opportunity for all.
