Bridges still on the job

By Pamela Auer, development director - Bridges | Jun 6, 2020

Bridges: Domestic & Sexual Violence Support Services wanted to take a moment in this incredibly uncertain time in our lives to say we are still here supporting victims and survivors of Domestic and Sexual Violence in our community.

As always, we are still the safety button for anyone who is dealing with domestic violence, sexual assault or stalking. We’re still assisting those in need 24/7 with crisis intervention, confidential emergency shelter, court advocacy, support groups, transitional housing and education and outreach.

Due to coronavirus and the stay at home orders, we are seeing an increase of 20 to 30% in the Northeast and worldwide. In normal circumstances survivors would have time and space away from their abuser to make a call for help or set up a safety plan to leave. It’s well known that abusers use emotional and physical abuse to isolate and manipulate victims. The shelter in place order during the Coronavirus crisis gives them a built-in excuse to further isolate their partners and establish control. We are seeing more and more stories each day about domestic violence that may be quarantine related.

We recently had a young mom and her two toddlers living in her car because the brutality was so bad. We’re happy to report she found Bridges and is living in safety today. We are here and we continue to answer the call.

Many people have asked what they can do to help survivors and Bridges at this time. Bridges has been working on a capitol campaign to renovate our new office and client space at 28 Concord Street, Nashua. We have raised two thirds of the total cost. Just as we were approaching five fundraising events to complete the campaign- Coronavirus arrived – dashing all chance of face to face events! Bridges is working on new and innovative ideas to raise the lost funds but are looking to the community to assist us through this most difficult time.

We are extremely grateful for our amazing community and supporters! If you should be moved to donate, please send your donations in care of Pamela Auer, Bridges, 33 E. Pearl St., Nashua, NH 03061 or go to our website at www.bridgesnh.org

Thank you and Stay Safe!
