Backsliding in Hudson…
I have lived in Hudson since 1987 and have been involved in a variety of efforts to enhance my community. I have served on the Recycling (now Sustainability) Committee, the Library Board of Trustees and the Friends of the Rodgers Memorial Library. These groups, as are many others in our community, dedicated to improving the quality of life in Hudson and the surrounding areas.
In the light of the application for the “speedy” approval of the Hudson Logistics Center on the grounds of the Green Meadow Golf Course, I fear that much hard earned progress will be lost. If the citizens and government leaders in Hudson “bury their heads in the sand” and approve this project, the entire town and surrounding communities will be opening the flood gates to pollution of the Merrimack River and ground water supplies from runoff of vehicular traffic and parking of multiple tractor trailers and smaller vehicles; danger from storage of fuel supplies on the site; air pollution from construction activities and vehicles; crippling traffic congestion as these vehicles add to already heavy traffic flow both in south Hudson and connecting roads as the trucks try to access major highways; added pressure on current water and sewage services to the area; noise, light and water pollution affecting abutters as well.
Whatever the financial benefit to the town might be, it will be offset by costs of providing increased police, fire, security and emergency services; road maintenance; traffic management and control; relocation of varieties of wildlife that currently populate the Golf Course; reduced real estate taxes assessed on depressed real estate prices of surrounding homes;and so on. …
I encourage all residents of Hudson and adjacent communities to stay informed and vocal about this potential hazard and threat to your quality of life. Don’t permit this project to undo all the progress that has been made.
