A-OK response to developers

By Connie Owen - Hudson | May 30, 2020

A-OK, articulate, organized and responsible describes the arguments provided by residents of South Hudson at the Hudson Planning Board Meeting on May 27. The meeting was hosted at the Hudson Community Center and broadcast on HCTV Channel 22 because of limitations related to COVID-19.

The Planning Board agenda was devoted to a presentation by Hillwood, a real estate company from Texas, to establish the Hudson Logistics Center, a massive distribution center on the grounds of the Green Meadow Golf Course in South Hudson. A number of the abutters and neighbors as well as other Hudson residents were there to present their concerns abiding by social distancing and wearing masks.

The Hudson Logistics Center will not only affect the “neighborhood,” but will have a negative effect on our wider community and adjacent towns from multiple aspects – pollution from noise, light, airborne particulates; storm water run-off on to housing lots, streets and the Merrimack River; depletion of water and sewage capacity; increased traffic congestion up and down Lowell Road/Route 3A, pitting almost continual truck traffic against current business and social traffic and school buses 24/7/365.

Once approved, this project will have incredible momentum. There has been an effort to “fast track” approval, especially inappropriate during this time of pandemic when so much energy has to be devoted to staying healthy and getting back to some sort of normalcy. Slowing down and taking the time to consider the cost/benefit analysis will serve the town well.
