Why Bernie?

By Burt Cohen - New Castle | Feb 3, 2020

There is nothing more important for America and the world than to oust Donald Trump. Any one of our Democratic candidates – all very good men and women – would be miles above Trump, who is the gravest danger to democracy since World War II.

While I had the honor of serving as a Bernie Sanders delegate from New Hampshire to the 2016 national convention, I did not immediately decide in 2020 because as Bernie says, “It’s not about me, it’s about us.” Since so many candidates this time around picked up much of Bernie’s message, I was open at first. Like many New Hampshire Democratic primary voters, I shopped around.

What made my decision was watching a frightening Trump rally. It occurred to me that no matter who we put up as our nominee, Trump will call him or her a socialist. Trying to avoid this is self defeating. Only Bernie will stand and go on offense. That is the way to beat Trump.

A win requires enthusiasm. Voting out of fear, for a “safe” candidate, did not work so well last time, did it?

I will do all I can to defeat Trumpism, whomever our nominee is. But with so much at stake, the strongest candidate has become clear. Bernie Sanders is the candidate who can best defeat Trump and bring about the change that our country and our world so desperately needs.

Bernie Sanders is the president America needs. He will restore our economy and our standing in the world. My vote is again with Bernie Sanders.
