Here’s the problem

By Will Labovitch - South Saint Paul, Minnesota | Feb 3, 2020

Greetings from Minnesota and hello to the extended family I have in Nashua.

I am writing this out of concern. You see, I like all the Democratic presidential candidates except one, Bernie Sanders.

You see, Minnesota is a state where voters will vote for a third-party candidate if they do not like either of the major party candidates. The problem? This type of voting tends to tilt elections to the Republicans.

In fact, Gary Johnson got around four percent in both states as Hillary Clinton barely defeated Donald Trump in both. This happened in the 2010 gubernatorial race in Minnesota as well as Democrat Mark Dayton barely defeated Republican Tom Emmer, as a third-party candidate named Tom Horner took 12 percent of the vote. Horner campaigned that both political parties were moving away form the center.

The problem? Sanders is a polarizing career politician whose statements, actions and votes will cause Independent voters to vote third party out of apathy and cause Trump to win another term. So, if you plan to vote in the upcoming Democratic primary, please do not vote for Bernie Sanders.
