Candidates must address Alzheimer’s

By Leslie Schuler, RN - Nashua | Feb 3, 2020

Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease, and that’s why I’m advocating with the Alzheimer’s Association and fighting this public health crisis.

I was first introduced to Alzheimer’s Disease as a child when my grandmother was diagnosed, and in 2001, passed away as a result. In 2014, at my 30th birthday party, I learned that my dad was also diagnosed with the disease.

We moved him into an assisted living facility earlier this year because his care and his needs have become too great to manage at home.

I’m not the only one living through this experience either. There are 5.8 million Americans and 25,000 Granite Staters living with Alzheimer’s and another 16 million Americans and 68,000 Granite Staters providing uncompensated care for a friend or family member.

With a problem this large, we need help from all places, including the White House. That’s why I’m asking every presidential candidate what they will do to fight Alzheimer’s if they are elected. I hope if you’re reading this you’ll take the time to do the same.
