Serving means showing up

By Staff | Oct 31, 2014

When thinking about who I want to represent me in the Statehouse in Concord, one important aspect is their attendance record. Former representative Lisa Scontsas is running again for Ward 3 in Nashua. When she served several years ago, her attendance record was poor. In 2012, Ms. Scontsas was present for only 69 percent of the recorded votes. That means nearly one third of the time our legislators were voting on bills that affect constituents like me; she wasn’t there. I understand that serving in the Legislature is a sacrifice, since it is essentially a volunteer position. While I appreciate Ms. Scontsas’ previous service, it is important to me that my representatives earn more than a D+ for attendance. For my family, a major consideration when choosing who will represent us in Ward 3 is that they actually are there to represent us, even if we don’t always agree with their votes on specific bills.
