David Brooks’ update on the Renaissance project (“Changes made for development,” The Telegraph, Aug. 9) offered a faint glimmer of hope that the project’s current neglect of needed waterfront amenities can be reversed. Ryan Porter (no relation), the Renaissance planning VP, in an attempt to rationalize the distance from downtown, said the site, “has more of a recreational opportunity to it because of proximity to the rivers”

Exactly. But for this to become reality the city planning board and other officials should insist that the next phase include establishment of a Nashua section of the long-planned Merrimack River Heritage Trail connecting to the one along the Nashua River; a canoe/kayak launch and parking, and seasonal docks for boaters who wish to dine in Nashua. Hudson has dozens of private seasonal docks. Nashua has but one.
