Physician backs expanded Medicaid

By Staff | Jan 4, 2014

I am writing this in support of the recent article by Rep. Cindy Rosenwald, concerning the benefits to our state of the expansion of Medicaid; As a physican, taxpayer and resident of New Hampshire, I think the expansion of Medicaid is critical to the welfare of our citizens. We are all, as a consequence of our human condition, at risk for the loss of all we have worked for due to an unexpected medical illness. Medicaid is a safety net that benefits us all. Without it, a severe illness not only results in the victims losing access to medical care, it also results in that care becoming less efficient and more costly, as it will be administered in emergency room and acute care facilities. I am a kidney doctor and my patients require dialysis treatments to stay alive. Without insurance, their dialysis has to be done sporadically in the hospital, which is more costly, less efficient and less effective than being given on a regular schedule in an outpatient facility.

Please encourage your representatives to approve the expansion of Medicaid; do it for your less fortunate neighbor, but do it for yourself as well.
