Promises believed vs. unfulfilled

By Staff | Dec 2, 2013

Mr. Michael Pignatelli’s list of President Barack Obama’s kept promises boosts the measure of the unkept promises that will have long-lasting effects. Obama inherited a won Iraq war, so it was easy to “end” it. Obama inherited a bridled conflict in Afghanistan, but he increased U.S. exposure and the lost blood is on his hands. It’s premature to believe that Iran has surrendered its zest to build a bomb, but everyone knows that Obama would never go to war. Lauding the killing of Osama bin Laden does not make the defeat of al-Qaeda. Any president should be able to improve a recessional economy and keep high unemployment from increasing further or lasting too long. But when will the recovery be acknowledged with full employment, because a doubling of the stock market mostly helps the rich?

Referring to meaningless promises will not benefit all Americans in the long run as much as an unfettered job market, reducing or eliminating the deficit, a cooperative Congress passing compromised legislation, foreign oil independence, and federal tax and entitlement reform. One thing I got from this article is how low standards are afforded a president to tout his achievements. Another is how much room is given to honesty and trust.
