Leaders should pay attention to issues of tomorrow

By Staff | Nov 10, 2013

One of the more interesting and important articles I’ve read lately in The Telegraph was Kevin Landrigan’s Nov. 3 article titled, “Several factors holding NH economy back.” I really hope that our lawmakers read it, too, or read the report Kevin refers to by the N.H. Center for Public Policy Studies. By lawmakers I mean everyone from state legislators to the governor to our U.S. senators and representatives.

The words “an aging population, ailing infrastructure and soaring costs to buy a home, health care or energy combine to present challenges to policymakers” should resonate with all New Hampshire residents. and all of those who care about the future of NH. These are the kinds of things I wish our lawmakers would work on. It’s too easy to get caught up in dealing with today’s issues – often small and unnecessarily contentious ones – and not the issues of tomorrow. Leadership involves prioritizing, rising above the distractions and planning ahead.
