SNHU scholarships for military praised
We applaud Southern New Hampshire University for its actions regarding active-duty student scholarships and believe it would be beneficial if more schools around the nation got involved (March 24: “SNHU praised for offer to assist military students”).
The military works hard every day to keep our country safe and plays a huge part in the many freedoms we enjoy today.
The current unemployment rate for troops returning from their deployment is at a crucial 11.3 percent. This problem mostly concerns younger veterans who enlisted right after high school, and the least we can do is provide as much help toward their education as possible.
Projections show that jobs available requiring a postsecondary education are likely to increase by nearly 35 percent.
To improve the unemployment rate, more schools around the country need to start contributing more to military members in scholarships and grants.
It is clear that SNHU is doing its best to be an asset to these soldiers, but not only SNHU should be engaged. There are soldiers all around the country who struggle to get an education, and it’s time to give them what they deserve.
We believe this is a very important message that should be spread across the country.
