Casino preferable to hike in gas tax

By Staff | Mar 6, 2013

Joe, a family man, recently has been hired after being out of work for 14 months.

He and his family were able to “get by” during that time, but it was a struggle to compromise on necessities and to not pay bills each month.

Joe’s new job pays $16 an hour, substantially less than his former salaried position. Additionally, he now has to travel more than 110 miles a day.

Joe is aware of the governor and Legislature attempting to resolve the states’ budgetary woes. Joe believes there is a ready solution for a portion of the financial shortfall.

Joe does not gamble; never has, never will. But Joe does drive and cannot afford a 15-cent hike in gas taxes.

Joe feels that a single “well-regulated” casino in southern New Hampshire is a practical solution for state funding. Imagine millions of dollars brought directly to New Hampshire with a casino, $80 million to be available this biennium.

Additionally, temporary jobs will be created in construction and permanent jobs in the casino.

Joe doesn’t understand why this 100 percent voluntary tax on casino play is not implemented.

If any members of the House of Representatives can explain their opposition to the casino, please call Joe at 1-999-help-joe.
