State liquor contract cries out for review

By Staff | Jan 3, 2013

I was astounded to read recently that the Law Warehouses liquor contract, which has been retained in the state for many years, has been awarded to a contractor outside the state – and, for that matter, outside the country.

The award was made to a German company, which means that all the profits could be leaving not just New Hampshire, but the U.S.

As I read more in The Telegraph, I become exceedingly concerned that there was some inappropriate consideration given in the award process. It is disappointing that a lawsuit had to be generated to secure the Right-to-Know process. This does not invoke trust in the transparent manner in which the contracting process should be administered in our state.

The Law families have been trusted partners with the state. They faithfully have executed their agreements and delivered a more than satisfactory result in the storage and movement of the liquor inventory. Since they suggest the new contract was unfairly awarded and could be costly to the state, I believe we all have valid cause to be wary of this agreement.

This decision should not move forward until New Hampshire residents and Law Warehouses are allowed to share in the process to ensure that all was done properly and that we are not subject to millions of dollars of hidden or unforeseen costs associated with the out-of-state vendor.

Let’s get a legitimate review of all protests administered by someone outside the Liquor Commission, and then this contract can be rebid appropriately.
