Lecius deserving of honor

By Staff | Nov 20, 2021

Anyone who has been in Nashua for any period of time likely knows Ed Lecius.

Lecius, a lifeslong Gate City native, was recently honored as the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year.

The local icon began his career at WSMN radio station. In 1983, Lecius stepped away from radio to work for Gov. John H. Sununu. He then served in the administration of President George H.W. Bush.

When he returned to Nashua, Lecius became the president and general manager for WMVU (formerly WOTW and now WGHM). When the station was sold in 1997, Lecius joined the staff of the Nashua Chamber of Commerce as director of programs until joining the Nashua Police Department in 2000 as its community policing coordinator. He retired in 2020.

Lecius has received many awards and commendations from the city of Nashua. For many years, Lecius has been active in the city of Nashua, serving as the chairman of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board for 13 years; serving as chairman of the Fire Commission for five years; and serving 20 years as the community police coordinator for the city of Nashua. Lecius also been an active member of the Nashua Lions Club for 50 years.

Wendy Hunt, president and CEO of the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce announced that, “This honor is given annually to an individual whose impact on Greater Nashua has been constant, consistent and transformative over many years. Ed exemplifies the high level of integrity and accomplishment of his predecessors as Citizens of the Year, and it will be a true honor to recognize him at this year’s annual gala.”

We couldn’t agree more. Lecius has been a cornerstone of this community, and has made countless contributions, touching thousands and thousands of lives.

From his work with the Nashua Lions Club to his many other contributions in his various endeavors, our community is so fortunate to have someone of his character and caliber leading the way in Greater Nashua. Congratulations, Ed.
