Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | Sep 18, 2021

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs Up – To United Way of Greater Nashua for their efforts in distributing 578,000 face masks Wednesday to 48 local organizations, including churches, synagogues, nonprofits, health care centers, schools (charter, private, and public) and daycare sites. The organization continued its efforts on Friday, giving out even more face coverings. Throughout the pandemic, UWGN and it staff and volunteers have done much to protect this community and to keep it going. From face masks to toilet paper, laptops for students, food events/drive, their efforts have been many and much appreciated. This community truly owes a debt of gratitude to United Way for all it has done.

Thumbs UP – To Lou Duhamel and his team of volunteers for hosting the Barbecue Benefit Bash on Aug. 21 to raise money for the Nashua Children’s Home. The final tally was around $21,500 by the time the final donations were counted, according to Duhamel. He also said there could be a few late-arriving donations yet to come in. The success of the event had Duhamel already talking about doing a second annual Barbecue Benefit Bash sometime next summer.

THUMBS UP – And good luck to everyone’s favorite soup location in Greater Nashua – Collins Brothers. The Gate City landmark opened for the season earlier this week to lines and excited patrons ready for warm soups and ready-to-made meals. Kim Poisson and Tina Burke were all smiles as they welcomed the first wave of customers Wednesday. Collins Brothers, located at 59 Temple St., is open Wednesdays from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and Saturdays 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Its daily menu, along with company history other information, can be found at collinsbrotherschowder.com.
