Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | Jul 17, 2021

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs Up – To the Nashua Goes Back to School committee and all involved in the upcoming event, which is set for Aug. 26 at the Nashua Public Library. Much planning and effort has went into this year’s event, which thankfully, will not be as difficult and cumbersome as last year’s pandemic-year event. All involved deserve heaps of praise for their work in putting together this unique event, which benefits the Gate City’s schoolchildren. Most of the favorites for this year’s event will return, with additional details being worked out daily. We’re sure this year’s Nashua Goes Back to School event will be even more successful than past years, thanks to all involved.

Thumbs DOWN – To those in Greater Nashua who think the Fourth of July continues, as fireworks continue to go off nightly, disturbing resident. While we’re all for some frivolity around the holidays, it’s July 18, and well past the holiday. Let’s quite down until at least the new year.

THUMBS UP – To Gov. Chris Sununu for signing into law last week legislation that will establish a matching grant initiative and funds for broadband expansion. Gov. Chris Sununu on Tuesday signed a bill establishing a broadband matching grant initiative and fund for New Hampshire. The grant will be funded with state appropriations, gifts, grants, donations and available federal funds. During the coronavirus pandemic, nearly $13 million was invested in broadband projects using federal CARES Act funds to connect nearly 4,500 previously unserved properties. Continue expansion is vital for growth in the Granite State. Let’s hope that growth doesn’t slow and additional funding becomes available.
