Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | May 8, 2021

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs Up – To all mother’s on this special weekend, which honors those that have made a significant impact on the lives of their children, their significant others and those who surround them. Through sacrifices, life lessons and encouragement, mothers have the special ability to make almost everything better. Thank you and much love to all those mothers out there that serve as inspiration to us all. “My mother is my root, my foundation. She planted the seed that I base my life on, and that is the belief that the ability to achieve starts in your mind.” – Michael Jordan

Thumbs DOWN – To the vandals who tore through downtown Nashua last week, spray painting downtown buildings and destroying the outdoor dining setup at Giant of Siam. Vandalism continues to be an issues in the city’s downtown district, which costs thousands of dollars per year in damages and additional work hours for many. Nashua, this is why we cannot have nice things, as our mother’s use to say. We can spruce up outdoor dining areas and paint all the Jersey-style barriers we want, but until this situation is addressed, it will continue to be a cancer on the face of what could – and hopefully will be – a hub for citizens to enjoy all the Gate City has to offer. Let’s hope the authorities take this seriously, and increase patrols and apprehend and prosecute those responsible. Downtown business owners should not have to shell out money to repair damage to their property, especially during this already-taxing pandemic.

THUMBS UP – To the United Way of Greater Nashua, the Greater Nashua Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Merrimack-Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Hudson Chamber of Commerce for organizing and hosting a vaccine hesitancy forum on Thursday. The information and input from the three panelists certainly was helpful to all participants.
