Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

THUMBS UP – To Beyond Walls and Positive Street Art for all their hard work painting the Jersey-style barriers throughout downtown Nashua. Once in place, these will set Nashua apart from other cities and towns who are taking the same approach. Our restaurants an bars are a vital part of our community, and the city’s willingness to set aside space for local eateries as the pandemic wanes is extremely helpful. Let’s hope outdoor dining is here to stay – even after we return to “normal.”

THUMBS UP – To the New Hampshire teen who is being credited with saving the life of a West Virginia youth who was livestreaming a four-wheeler ride on TikTok. Caden Cotnoir, 13, made a virtual call after Trent Jarrett, 12, yelled out his grandparent’s phone number on the livestream. Trent’s parents managed to find him and lift the ATV off him. After being trapped for about 20 minutes, he sustained minor cuts and bruises. “He did was he was supposed to do and got the right people and it worked out. It was an Easter miracle,” Caden’s stepfather, Gilmanton, W.Va., Police Chief Matt Currier, said of him.

THUMBS UP – As New Hampshire prepares to remove its residency requirement for the coronavirus vaccination starting April 19. Gov. Chris Sununu had faced some criticism in college communities over the state’s initial decision to prohibit college students from other states and other non-residents from being vaccinated in New Hampshire. But that restriction is being lifted because the state anticipates having plenty of doses to go around, Sununu said last week. Let’s hope he is right, as it is essential to vaccinate as many people as possible.
