Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | Feb 13, 2021

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs DOWN – A New Hampshire state senator unaware he was unmuted during a remote hearing last called a female colleague a vulgar name, then apologized. Sen. Sharon Carson, a Republican from Londonderry, was leading the meeting of the Executive Departments and Administration Committee when she briefly paused the committee’s work. “I’m sorry, my daughter is currently hospitalized and her doctor is on the phone. I’m going to put the committee in recess for 10 minutes,” she said, according to video posted by WMUR-TV. “Nobody else can do anything. Right,” said Sen. John Reagan, R-Deerfield, followed by the vulgarity. As the meeting adjourned later, Reagan said, “Apologies for my recorded outburst previously.” Apologies indeed, and yet another example of the vitriol in local, state and national politics. We certainly as Granite Staters – on either side of the isle – would hope for better from our elected officials. Apparently not, though. It’s high time we vote those out of office who can’t behave in a civilized manner and represent us all with dignity and respect.

Thumbs UP – To Gov. Chris Sununu for helping to expanded the operating hours for most of vaccination sites for partnering with Walgreens pharmacies. Sununu said seven of the state’s 19 vaccination clinics are now open seven days a week, and 11 of them remain open for 12 hours a day. Walgreens, meanwhile, will administer about 3,400 vaccines per week at 34 of its locations statewide. Priority for those shots will be given to people in the current vaccination phase who have appointments for their first doses scheduled in April, Sununu said. While there certainly have been missteps along the way, it’s nice to see vaccination efforts ramping up so we may end this pandemic.
