Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs UP – To the Nashua Soup Kitchen & Shelter on kicking off renovations at the former Sacred Heart School at 35 Spring St. in Nashua. “This was built for low income immigrants back then, and today, it will again be serving folks in need in our community,” said Mike Reinke, the shelter’s executive director. Reinke was among about a dozen people who gathered last week for what he called a “hard hat” event, a brief program that marked the official kickoff of a sweeping renovation project that, when complete, will give the old place a new lease on life as an emergency shelter for single men, single women and families. It’s work like this that makes Nashua such a special place, a city filled with caring people who go above and beyond to help those in need.

Thumbs UP – To Gov. Chris Sununu for calling for a “two week intermission” on hockey in New Hampshire. Hockey has been identified as a “high risk activity,” with Dr. Benjamin Chan, the state epidemiologist, noting the state has seen “substantial spread by hockey,” with 117 cases connected to eight different outbreaks acquired through hockey. The suspension in action will offer a chance to clean facilities, test athletes, parents and officials, and to develop new guidance. Chan said we are now experiencing moderate levels of community spread statewide. “We know how to prevent COVID-19 and have been successful in the past,” he said, urging people to not led down their guard and continue with social distancing, mask-wearing, and washing hands. But most importantly, avoid gathering in groups indoors. While additional restrictions throughout the state are an inconvenience, it’s better to be safe than sorry. We can not afford to a large-scale spike in COVID-19 cases.
