Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | Oct 3, 2020

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs UP – Once again to area teachers, school administrators and students. Remote learning, for the most part, has went very well throughout Greater Nashua; however, we certainly understand the toll it is taking on teachers and students. With any luck, the pandemic will wane and schools can return to normal in time for graduation.

THUMBS DOWN – To both President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden for making a mockery of the first presidential debate. The circus-like atmosphere, name calling and lack of insightful and meaningful answers certainly did not do anyone any good – especially the American public. After that farce, we all should be convinced that neither are the right fit for the highest office in the land.

THUMBS DOWN – To several local retailers who we will not name who already have jingled out the Christmas decorations and holiday inflatable. Let’s just get through Halloween and all the ghosts and goblins before we move on to St. Nicholas.

THUMBS UP – To the Currier Museum of Art for stepping in to save the Chandler House in Manchester. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Manchester had applied for a permit in June to demolish the structure. The museum plans to restore rooms on the main level of the house to their original appearance and conduct tours of those areas. The rest of the building will be renovated for office and classroom space. The 30-room home was built by George Chandler, a banker and a philanthropist. More recently, the house was the home of several bishops in the city and a convent for nuns from the nearby St. Hedwig Church.
