Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | Sep 12, 2020

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs Up – To all the poll workers throughout our region for doing an amazing job in a tough situation during New Hampshire’s primary election last week. The election went well, and there were few problems reported. Let’s hope that the general election in November goes so smoothly.

Thumbs UP – And congratulations to all the winners in last week’s primary election. For the most part, candidates on both sides were civil and showed class in their respective races. With little time before the Nov. 3 election, we hope the candidates will continue in this manner and address their differences in a constructive way.

THUMBS UP – To all the parents and students in our area on completing the first week of remote learning. Again, this is a tough situation, and yes, there will be bumps in the road; however, with effort, planning and caution, in-person classes will begin again soon.

THUMBS UP – To local athletes and coaches for all the precautions they are taking as they prepare for the upcoming fall sports season. While games certainly will look much different this season, officials are taking the right stance on limiting the number of people who can attend games.

Thumbs up – To Gov. Chris Sununu for allocating an additional $10 million in support for 42 long-term care facilities to help cover COVID-19 expenses and lost revenue. Most facilities have been hit hard, and $12 million already has been allotted. Sununu said another $13 million will go to 300 different health care providers across the state for the same relief. He also noted that there still is $250 million in unallocated funds from the CARES Act that must be spent by the end of the calendar year. We certainly hope these funds will go to worthy recipients to help mitigate the immense damage done by this pandemic.
