Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

By Staff | Aug 8, 2020

Editor’s note: During the course of a week, issues are covered that might not lend themselves to full editorial comment, but they are worthy of The Sunday Telegraph weighing in – thumbs up, thumbs down or neutral.

Thumbs Up – To Nashua Superintendent of Schools Jahmal Mosley and his staff on their excellent work on the reopening plan for district school. The Nashua School District Board of Education OK’d the plan by a vote of 6-2, and requested additional details be provided. While we agree additional details are needed, when Mosley and his team put together the outline, it was far too early to nail down every conceivable detail. As school get closer, details will be worked out that will – we’re sure – be to the satisfaction of most involved. What we remind everyone, though, is that this still is a fluid situation that needs constant monitoring. In addition, we all can agree that this is not the best situation for our children; however, safety must – and will, thanks to Mosley – come first. Finally, while we are aware Mosley has is a finalist for a superintendent’s post in Massachusetts, let us home he opts to stay in Nashua and continue his good work.

THUMBS UP – To the United Way of Greater Nashua on their efforts last week to Stuff the Bus. In addition, Thumbs Up to all local residents who generously gave for this worthy cause. Even though remote learning will be in place in Nashua for the first month of classes, students – and parents – still need these all-important supplies to help in the learning process. And, speaking of back-to-school, let’s not forget the upcoming Nashua Goes Back to School event, which is slated for Aug. 20. The 16th annual event will be hosted at three locations – Elm Street Middle School, Fairgrounds Elementary School and Amherst Street School. While the event will feel much different than in past years, safety precautions are in place so the event still can go off without a hitch.
