Proposed project would be beneficial
Last week, officials announced plans for a logistics center in Hudson that could transform the local economy.
The proposed center, which would be on the Green Meadow Golf Club property, would bring 2,500 direct and indirect jobs to the area and infuse millions of dollars into local and state coffers.
The facility would be more than double the size of what is currently the state’s largest logistics center, which belongs to Walmart and is located in Raymond.
The proposal submitted by Hillwood Investment Properties, a Dallas-based development firm, seeks to construct three high-tech distribution facilities, creating roughly 2.6 million square feet of warehouse space.
“We are projected to put over $300 million of investment into the property,” said Justin Dunn, Hillwood vice president for development.
The proposed plan seems to be well thought out, with 230 of the site’s 374 acres preserved as green space with natural buffers between the Merrimack River and adjoining neighborhoods. Also included is a plan to minimize the impact of potential noise and light from the facility and the planting of trees and bushes to assist in the buffering.
The town of Hudson is set to host a public hearing on the project at 7 p.m. May 27.
We would encourage local officials to, obviously, do their due diligence, but we also would encourage them to fast-track this proposal so work could begin as soon as possible.
Opportunities like this do not come along very often, and an economic infusion will be just what the doctor ordered once the coronavirus pandemic is at bay.
If all goes well, work could begin as soon as fall 2021.
While that may seem a ways off, the benefits – once they materialize – will been seen in additional tax dollars for Hudson, good-paying jobs and some much-needed peace of mind.
