An example of positive interaction with police

By Staff | Oct 7, 2018

Here’s one of the things we like about life in these parts, this example happens to come from Wilton, but we suspect other towns regularly do the same thing:

“At 3:37 a.m. police located two juveniles walking near Chabot Way and gave them courtesy rides to their homes.”

We understand that in cities, police have a lot of really big things with which to deal on a daily basis. Out our way, police deal with lots of things but, fortunately, most of them aren’t really big things.

So our officers have time to provide courtesy rides.

Now here’s the thing: They don’t have to. The officer who spotted these two kids walking in the wee hours could have done a couple of other things:

1. Taken them to the station and called their parents.

2. Shouted, “Get home or I’ll haul you.”

No. This Wilton officer did a good thing, the right thing. We don’t know who he is, but somebody should give him a pat on the back.

Also, maybe the parents of these kids could drop a line to the Wilton chief thanking this officer. Cops don’t get a lot of praise – yes, we understand that around this nation, a lot of officers are pulling the trigger too quickly and too often, but they are in the minority, we believe.

If you have a chance to interact with an officer on a positive basis, make sure somebody knows about it.
