In what for some is a booming economy, there are still many of our friends and neighbors who could use a little help. One of the local organizations that always stands ready to provide that help is the Share Food Pantry in Milford which, like the Open Cupboard Pantry in Wilton, sometimes finds itself low on the food supplies.

According to Christine Janson, the Share director, the organization is in serious need.

” … the Share Food Pantry is low on everything,” she posted on the Milford Residents’ Facebook Group.

She has asked – for the first time in the last few years, she said – for people to keep Share in their minds when they are at the supermarket and to pick up an extra item or three to donate. Everything Share collects stays local and while many of us are doing quite well, that can’t be said of everyone. It’s a pity, but it’s true.

Share has donation barrels at many local churches and at Coldwell Banker on Route 122 South, Market Basket and Shaws in Milford, and at Earthward on Route 101A.

And you can always bring donations to Share at 1 Columbus Ave., Milford, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and until 7 p.m. on Tuesday during the community supper.

The bullish stock market and low employment rate don’t help those who are working minimum wage jobs to put food on the table. They are your neighbors.

So pick up a few extra jars of peanut butter or packages of pasta when you’re out shopping and drop them off at a collection spot.
