Staying safe on state’s roadways
This weekend, the New Hampshire State Police announced they will be out in force to ensure safe travels, not just related to the nasty winter weather, but to patrol for impaired motorists returning from holiday festivities and parties.
Known as Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) Life Saver Weekend, troopers hope the increased presence will reduce traffic collisions and the injuries and deaths that may result from impaired or distracted driving.
It is part of a nationwide campaign among state police agencies to reduce highway-related deaths, especially during the holiday season.
Efforts during the Thanksgiving weekend were successful, according to the state police, with no fatal accidents during the four-day period.
Troopers maintained a highly visible presence throughout the state to assure safe holiday travel, which included 3,087 vehicle total stops. Forty drivers were cited for using electronic devices while operating a motor vehicle.
It’s important to plan ahead – make sure electronic devices are not available for easy access. If drinking, designate a sober driver or keep the number of local taxi or Uber services handy to ensure a safe home arrival. And always wear a seatbelt, there are no good excuses not to.
