Ellen Glenda Slaney

Nov 6, 2026

Ellen Glenda Slaney, 81, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of family, friendships, adventures, great stories, and plenty of opinions along the way.

Born March 13, 1945 in Needham, Massachusetts, Ellen was the daughter of Kenneth Whitmore Slaney and Cyrilla Glenda (Gass) Slaney. She grew up in Needham and graduated from Needham High School with the Class of 1963.

Ellen loved an adventure. Whether it was a quick trip to the store, a day at the beach, or an opportunity to see a new corner of the world, she was usually up for it. She may have hated flying, but that never stopped her from going. She loved the beach, seafood, a warm meal around the table, a great story, and, most of all, time spent with family and friends.

Ellen spent nearly 30 years with JCPenney, working in Human Resources at the Nashua and Manchester stores–and, in true Ellen fashion, helping with just about anything else that needed to get done. She made many lifelong friends during those years and treasured those friendships throughout her life. She also worked part-time at several other businesses, including HomeGoods and Lawndale Farm in Tyngsboro, and generously gave her time volunteering throughout her life.

Family was at the center of Ellen’s world. She was a friend, confidante, advisor, companion, and constant presence to so many. Ellen had a wonderful way of making people feel like family, whether they technically were or not.

Ellen is survived by her son, Christopher LeBlanc of Nashua; her daughter, Jennifer LeBlanc of Nashua; sister Jacquelyn Mascetta and her husband, Nicholas; sister Christie Tierney and her husband, Jeff; her sister-in-law, Ellen Slaney; and her many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Michael “Bruce” Slaney, and her beloved sister, Jill Toomey.

Ellen will be remembered for her quick wit, strong opinions, great advice, warm meals, wonderful sense of humor, and unmistakable zest for life. Her absence will leave an enormous space, but also countless stories, laughs, and memories of a life made richer simply because Ellen was part of it.

She will be deeply missed and very lovingly remembered.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday November 21, 2026 at Saint Paul’s Cemetery 114 Hersey Street Hingham, MA.

This will be immediately followed by a Celebration of Life and brunch reception at the Fox and Hound Tavern 123 Sea Street Quincy, MA.
