Alan Frederick Hurley passed away peacefully Friday September 25th, 2026.

Alan, Al, Dad, Uncle Al, Grandpa, Papa was born on May 13th, 1932, in Lynn, Massachusetts. He was the second born child of his parents Joseph and Adele Hurley of Swampscott. He was predeceased by his sister Barbara Surrette, his brother Robert Hurley and his wife of 54 years Eileen (Donohue). Alan was also predeceased by his youngest son Christopher in 2020.

After high school graduation, Alan went on to enroll at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, then on to Tufts where he graduated with a BS in engineering. He later went on to earn his master’s in electrical engineering from Northeastern University. Alan served two years in the Army, stationed at Fort Dietrich in Maryland. After moving to Nashua, NH in 1960, he went on to have a distinguished engineering career at Sanders Associates, BAE, and finally Mitre. Along with his wife Eileen, they raised four children.

Alan loved woodworking, hiking, fishing, sailing, the coasts of Maine and the North Shore, the mountains and lakes of New Hampshire, the Red Sox and especially his family. Over the years, he gifted many heirlooms that attest to his woodworking skill including building from scratch, a 16-foot Swampscott dory. He loved the outdoors; he summited well over half of the four-thousand-foot peaks in New Hampshire, and earned his way through college as a fisherman off the shores of Cape Ann.

Alan is survived by his large and growing family. His children include his daughter Catherine (Corcoran) and husband Tim Corcoran, and sons Robert and his wife Deborah, Daniel and his wife Marcia. Grandpa/Papa adored his 12 grandchildren Elizabeth, Meredith, Andrew, Brendan, Caitlin, Kevin, Nicole, James, Amy, Sarah, Jane and George. He also delighted in his 16 (plus 3 on the way) great-grandchildren.
