Barbara M. Mercier

Barbara M. Mercier, age 86, born 09/26/39 in Waltham, MA, passed away peacefully at Courville Nursing Home, Nashua, NH on 09/10/26 after a brief period of declining health.

The beloved daughter of the late Theodore and Esther (Gelia) Zagwyn of Waltham, MA, she was born and raised in Waltham, MA. She attended State Teachers College in Framingham, MA. She later moved to Merrimack, NH to raise her family. She was then a long-standing native of Merrimack and Nashua.

Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of 35 years Michael W. Mercier, a brother Ted K. Zagwyn of Kansas, a sister Adrienne Johnson of Laconia, NH, a stepson, Tom Mercier of Merrimack, NH and a niece Tanya Eklund of Kansas.

She is lovingly survived by her three children, Steven Slusarczyk of OH, David Slusarczyk of NH, and Marie Gibeley of NH and a step-son Richard Mercier of NH, (10) grandchildren and (4) great-grandchildren, and many nieces and cousins.

Her and her late-husband were business entrepreneurs starting with Michael’s Restaurant in Merrimack, then expanding to Michael’s Restaurant and Catering (1970-1987). They later owned the (IHOP) International House of Pancakes on Main Street in Nashua until 1998. They truly loved supporting and servicing the community.

Barbara always had a smile on her face and enjoyed classical music, casual walks of reflection, her puzzles and was a verocious reader. She was a good friend. She will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and selfless nature. She was an active member of St. John Neuman Catholic Church in Merrimack, NH.

Although dementia gradually shadowed her over the last year, it never diminished the extraordinary woman she was or the love she gave so freely throughout her life.

SERVICES: Following cremation, family and friends are invited to call at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday, September 28th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later time.
