Abner Farrer Taub

Abner Farrer Taub of Nashua, NH passed away on September 12, 2026 at the age of 78. He was born on November 16, 1947 in New Brunswick, NJ to Jerome Taub and Rita (Farrer) Rogin. After graduation from high school, he spent a year in Israel working on a kibbutz. He studied art history at Rutgers University. During this time, he also drove a taxi in New York City and helped to sail a boat through the Great Lakes. He then went to Belgium where he became fluent in French while obtaining a medical degree from the Université Libre de Bruxelles. He met his wife Liliane, who was his medical school classmate, and they had two wedding ceremonies in Brussels and New York in 1977. He and Liliane completed their pediatrics residency at the University of Rochester where they were the first married couple to job share as residents. They moved to Fort Kent, ME in 1981 as they began their career as the first pediatricians in the small town. They later moved to Nashua, NH in 1988 where they joined a group pediatrics practice (known at that time as Matthew Thornton) and continued working and job sharing as pediatricians for many years. He was known to be very thorough, kind, and compassionate as he wanted to be sure that all children got the care that they needed. He retired in 2013 after 32 years in practice.

Abner was an active member of the congregation of Temple Beth Abraham in Nashua, NH, serving in many leadership and supportive roles including as the President of the Board of Directors for two terms. He was a regular presence at services and social events. Later, he worked closely with the regional district of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.

He enjoyed spending time in the garden, traveling the world (highlights for him were visits to Belgium and to his grandchildren), cooking, hiking and camping with Liliane, downhill and cross-country skiing across New England and Switzerland, snowshoeing, reading the New York Times, and spending time with family. In retirement, he was a frequent volunteer at the Nashua Soup Kitchen.

He is survived by his wife Liliane Sznycer; his children Miriam Sznycer-Taub and Nathaniel Sznycer-Taub; his siblings Barry Taub and Heidi Taub; and grandchildren Philip, Noah, Max, and Vera. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday September 14th at 1 PM at Temple Beth Abraham in Nashua, NH. Interment to follow at Temple Beth Abraham Cemetery.
