George Flewelling

George Flewelling died peacefully in his home at Venetian Gardens in Venice, FL, on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, at 11:20 pm.

George is survived by his wife, Jean, and his sons Wayne, Scott, Gregory, and Michael. He is also survived by his siblings, Audrey, Nancy, David, and Willma. He was predeceased by his son Stephen and his sister Diane.

George was born in Medford, MA, in August of 1929. He spent his youngest years in the neighborhood surrounding Nuttings Lake in Billerica, MA. George had idyllic memories of his childhood by the lake, with tales of picking wild blueberries and apples from a nearby orchard. He later moved to the North Road area of Bedford, MA, where he attended Howe High School, went into the reserves, and met his wife Jean. Soon after, they moved to Nashua, NH, and raised a family of five boys while George worked at Sanders Lockheed. During that time, George was an active member of the community and, following in his father’s footsteps, led the local Boy Scout troop for several years.

George was a loving spouse, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his family at their camp in Rangeley, ME, where he and Jean eventually retired. There, they spent their summers surrounded by clear lakes and blue mountains, making memories with family to last a lifetime. Eventually, George and Jean would migrate to Florida for the winters, landing in Englewood. George spent his remaining years keeping busy gardening, traveling, and whittling award-winning sculptures of Moose and other wild animals. His family shares fond memories of George trekking through the woods, playing Cribbage around the family table, and eating lobster until there was nothing left but the shell.

He will be remembered for always being prepared, never quitting, and uttering his favorite phrase, “It never rains in Maine.”
