Carol Biscornet Smith

Carol Biscornet Smith passed peacefully with her family present July 8, 2026 at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, WA. She was 84.

Born Carol Ann Biscornet to Albert Biscornet, an optometrist, and Nathalie Scales in Nashua, NH. She grew up on Pearl St, loved to visit the nearby bakery with her friend Sandy. Carol graduated from Mount St. Mary’s Catholic High School.

Carol graduated with honors from the University of New Hampshire and the Dartmouth Medical School of Medical Technology. As a registered medical technologist, she practiced her profession for 40 years in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics in NH, CT, MA, VA, and AK, most notably at Glebe Medical Assoc in Arlington, VA and the Alaska State Medical Lab in Anchorage.

Carol is survived by her husband of 63 years, Allen Smith, sons Mark Smith of Ashland, VA and David Smith of Olympia, WA; grandchildren Ashley Smith of VA, Stephanie Hodge of NC, and Luke Smith of VA; and great grandchildren Vincent Gibbs and Eleanor Abel of VA and Henrik Hodge and Hazel Hodge of NC.

She loved to make quilts to celebrate the birth of her grand-children and great grand-children, volunteered for hospice in Alaska and the Timberland Library in Olympia, and loved to cook, garden, and watch birds. Carol enjoyed camping and hiking with family and their many birding trips to AZ, NM, TX, WA, OR, CA, NJ, VA, NC, Belize and throughout New England.

She strongly supported Allen’s wilderness and wildlife conservation work. She enjoyed joining Allen to visit Alaska national wildlife refuges and national parks, float the Kongakut River in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and float the Tatshenshini Alsek River in British Columbia.

Carol was a thoughtful loving person who cared deeply about people and their well-being; she will be deeply missed by all who loved and knew her.
