Robert Alan Crompton
Robert Alan Crompton, beloved husband of Charlotte Denise (Kelley) Crompton for 64 years, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026, at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell, MA, with his family by his side during his final days.
Bob was born on February 16, 1938, in New Bedford, Massachusetts, to John and Florence (Anderton) Crompton. His family later moved to Dartmouth, Massachusetts, where he graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1956. He attended Wentworth Institute in Boston and graduated in 1958 with an Associate Degree in Engineering. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1964, when he received an honorable discharge.
Bob spent over 30 years working for Raytheon Corporation in the Missile Defense Systems Division while living in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
He enjoyed sharing his lifelong love of nature with his wife and four children, taking them on many camping and hiking trips. He was an avid gardener as well as a creator and builder of useful things. He was predeceased by his daughter, Kelley Ann Crompton, who died in 2009 at age 45 from complications of a rare medical condition.
In addition to his beloved wife, Denise, he leaves his son, David Robert Crompton and his wife, Linda (Ortler) Crompton of Lowell, Massachusetts; his daughter, Peggy Cardone and her husband, Paul, of Nashua, New Hampshire; and his daughter, Susan DeAngelis of Milford, New Hampshire. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by his brother, John Stuart Crompton of Venice, Florida, and his sister, Carol Lauzon of New Bedford, Massachusetts.
After his retirement, Bob enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren, as well as taking many road trips with his wife.
Bob will be remembered for his quiet generosity, dependability, and willingness to help whenever he could. An engineer by profession and a craftsman at heart, he found joy using his hands and his ingenuity to make things for those he loved. Whether lending a hand with a ride, a home project, or simply being there when someone needed him, everyone knew Bob could be counted on. His legacy lives on in the family he loved, the things he built, and the example of a life faithfully lived.
