Max Peterson Quayle, age 57, of Chelsea, Vermont, passed away tragically on June 17th, 2026.

Max had a deep love for the outdoors, his country, and his family. He felt most at home in the woods, working as a mason or carpenter to create beautiful, lasting structures, or simply appreciating the natural world around him. A gifted writer and craftsman, his greatest strength was his generosity and service to others. He shared his knowledge freely, gave his time without hesitation, and was often the first to step forward when someone needed help. He lived his values each day and will be remembered for his strength, craftsmanship, and unwavering commitment to those around him. He will be deeply missed by his family, church, and communities throughout New England. He was predeceased by his son, Oliver, and sister, Elisabeth.

Max is survived by his mother, Ann Jones and her husband, Scott Jones of Gorham, New Hampshire, his father Harold Max Quayle Jr. of Merrimack, New Hampshire; his wife, Deb Quayle; his former wife, Lynn Haney; his sister, Rebecca Quayle; and his children, Matt Coll and Wife Acacia, April, Laura, Emily, Sunday, Peter, Arthur, and Harold. He was a proud grandfather to Raphael C., Liam T., Leonardo R., Conrad H., and Evaluna L., and a strong father figure to Ethan and Kyle Lavallee.

The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Christine Bullard, Dennis Cilley, Nick Fernandes, the VT Red Cross and the Gifford Last Mile Fund for their compassionate support, and to everyone who has reached out with condolences during this difficult time.
