George Thompson
George Thompson, 94, of Amherst, New Hampshire died peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
He was born in Manchester, New Hampshire on January 15, 1932 and was the son of the late George A. and Muriel (Seavey) Thompson and the beloved husband of Marjorie (Gagnon) Thompson, married on June 5, 1954.
George graduated from West High School with the class of 1949 and continued his education at New Hampshire School of Accounting (SNU). Following graduation, he worked for John A. Connare Corporation as well as Sears Roebuck located in Manchester, Boston, Hamden, CT, Watertown, NY, and Lowell, MA, and he retired after 38 years from the regional office in 1989.
He and Marge fell in love with the St. Lawrence area where they had gone on their honeymoon, they returned to the River where they spent summers until 1999 when they sold their cottage. The River kept calling them back as they considered their second home, so they returned for vacations ever since.
George enjoyed fishing, boating, golfing, and was an avid reader especially of books by Austin Mayor. He truly was a “jack of all trades”, he could fix anything, jobs others wouldn’t dare to tackle. He built a 12X28 ft shed, attached to his garage because he didn’t want to even have a tool in his garage. He took pride in caring for his yard, so much that he felt if he contracted a service, they wouldn’t measure up to his standards.
He was a member of Ponemah Golf Course, where he made many friends who he never missed an opportunity to tell a good golf story (true or not). He also coached for many years in youth sports programs in both NY and Nashua including CYO basketball and loved chatting with his two boys about any professional game that they enjoyed in person or on TV. He was very active in the Catholic Church wherever they lived. He served on parish councils, and he and his wife, Marge co-founded, Voice of the Faithful in Nashua. He supported SNAP and Bishop Accountability; he also supported those who had been sexually abused, Youth Development Center as well as others. He was a loyal friend to many and so enjoyed his six great-grandchildren as Pa Pa George.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he is survived by his three children, Russell and his wife Deb of Derry, NH, Bob (Bubba) and his wife Kristina of Bradford, NH, and Barbara of Nashua, NH; his four grandchildren, Kerrie Caron and her husband Nicholas, Kelly Gilpatrick and her husband Mike, Jonathan Thompson and his wife Mary, and Christopher Thomson and his wife Maryanna. He is also survived by his six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Brooklyn, Natalie, Haleigh, Ayden, and Rocky.
Sadly, George was predeceased by his grandson, James Michael Thompson, as well as his brother, Joseph Thompson.
Relatives and friends are invited to George’s visitation on WEDNESDAY, July 1st from 10 until 12 Noon at ROCHETTE FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATION SERVICES, 21 Kinsley Street, Nashua. His Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home at 12:15 PM. Cremation will follow.
