Roger Hale Osgood, Jr.
Roger Hale Osgood, Jr.,86, died June 8, 2026 at his residence at Bowman Place in Bedford after a period of declining health.
Roger was born on March 21, 1940 in Nashua to Roger Hale Osgood, Sr. and Anne O’Neill Osgood. He was a 1957 graduate of Nashua High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., and Master of Business Administration from Rivier University.
Roger long dreamed of becoming a physician. However, following the sudden passing of his father, who was the president of Osgood’s Hardware, Roger instead joined his mother Anne in the family business upon graduating from Holy Cross in 1961. He became president of the hardware store in 1981.
Despite not practicing medicine, Roger found numerous ways to serve others. He enlisted as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force in 1963 serving his country through several assignments, including a 12-month remote deployment to the Aleutian island of Shemya, an isolated top-security base, with his last assignment at the United States Air Force Academy. He attained the rank of captain during his five-year service with the Air Force and often spoke of those years with immense pride.
Roger continued his father’s commitment to community service through his membership in the Nashua Rotary Club, where he served as president. He also sat on several boards, including the Nashua Federal Saving and Loan and the Nashua Public Library board of trustees. In his later years, Roger taught courses in economics, accounting and business at Southern New Hampshire University and Nashua Community College.
In September 1962, Roger married the love of his life, Joan Mary Ellen Curtis, whom he met in the ninth grade at Spring Street Junior High School. They were married for 53 years until Joan’s death in 2015. An avid cook and baker, Roger found great joy in preparing meals and treats for his family. His grandchildren eagerly anticipated visits that included “Grandpa’s famous ice cream,” a tradition that remains a treasured memory for those fortunate enough to enjoy it.
Roger was predeceased by his parents, his wife Joan, their infant son Christopher, and grandson Jeffrey May. He is survived by his four children: Roger H. Osgood III and his wife, Jennifer, of Alpharetta, Ga., Bradley C. Osgood and wife Patrice of Exeter; Kristen A. Boals and her husband, Aaron, of Oak Ridge, N.C.; and Jonathan S. Osgood of Derry. He is also survived by grandchildren Dr. Kevin Osgood, Dr. Mary Osgood and Brian May; Katie, Ryan and Sarah Boals; Brendan Johnson and Gavin Osgood; Sean and David Brett, and Brittany Gunter; four great-grandchildren, Adelaide, Delaney, Mabel and Margot; a sister, Sally Osgood Bashalany and her husband Joseph; and several cousins, nephews and grandnieces.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Patrick Parish, 29 Spring Street, Nashua on Monday, June 29 at 9 a.m. Friends and relatives are welcome to attend. A private burial will be held at the United States Air Force Academy, where Roger will be interred next to Joan and their infant son, Christopher. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s memory to the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery Association.
