Stanley D. Wood

Stanley D. Wood, 86, of Claremont, New Hampshire, died on June 11, 2026, after a period of declining health.

Stanley was born on September 28, 1939, in Lebanon, New Hampshire, to Philip and Esther (Puffer) Wood, Sr.

Stanley spent his early years on the family farm in Lebanon, which is now known as the Miracle Mile. In his senior year of high school, he felt the call to serve his country and he joined the United States Navy. He proudly served 20 years as part of the Navy Seabees and as a cook. He served two tours in Vietnam.

As a member of the U.S. Navy, he travelled to 72 countries. After leaving the military he continued to travel as often as he could. In between his travels, he found time to run the Orford General Store in Orford, New Hampshire, which he owned and operated for over seven years with his third wife, Sandra (Montague).

Stanley is survived by his wife Phyllis (Seace) whom he married in 1959 and again in 1990, his daughters and sons: Renée (Marc) Plante, Dorée (Dale) Russell, Nancy (Donald) Fontaine, Andrée Wood, Derrick Kimball, Holly Olson, Tony (Vanessa) Wood, and T. Thomas Denney; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; his second wife Sonya Shufelt; sister-in-law Ellen Wood; nieces Christine (Eugene) Rabassa and Heidi (Doug) Ahlquist. He is predeceased by his parents; brother P. Jerry (Ellen) Wood, Jr.; nephew Steven Wood; stepsons Perry Wood and Eddie Denney; and third wife Sandra.

A service will be held at Stringer Funeral Home on June 19, 2026, with a visitation starting at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, burial with military honors will take place at 1PM at the West Lebanon Cemetery, Pleasant Street, West Lebanon, New Hampshire.
