Stephen L. Previte
Stephen L. Previte, 78, of Hollis, passed away May 30, 2026 after a sudden illness. He was the loving and devoted husband to Linda Previte for 48 years. Steve was born and raised in East Boston, MA. He earned an engineering degree in mechanical design technology. He served in the military in Vietnam as a CB. He worked in the high tech industry until he left in 1986 to pursue a career in fine art, becoming a distinguished and much recognized artist in the NH art community for the past 40 years. He worked in oils, in a style he described as Representational Impressionism. His subject matter was of light and atmosphere, and its effects on both the urban and rural landscapes. His work included weathered barns, landscapes, as well as cityscapes he described as urban industrial. He has been recognized and earned first-place prizes in art shows up and down the East Coast. His work was displayed in the Currier Museum of Art, the Whistler House Museum of Art, Salon des Artistes, Hotel Meridian in Boston, MA, Art in the Park in Keene, as well as the Greeley Art show. He taught art for the past 30 years helping many loyal students develop their artistic talents. His weekly studio classes and workshops held in Nashua were highly esteemed. He had studios in both Nashua and Hollis. His musings as a teacher included “If you want to be a good painter be a good observer,” “It’s all about the light” and “If its cute – I failed.”
Stephen had a very active and vibrant spiritual life. He was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness in 1979 and served faithfully for more than 46 years. He attended the Hollis congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses where he served as an elder. He was known for his extraordinary kindness, sensitivity and caring ways, counseling and helping many. Stephen loved to cook. He also leaves behind his brother Henry Previte, also of Hollis, his nephew Stephen, and sister-in-law Marjorie Evans of New Jersey, and many close friends and acquaintances. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at the Hollis Kingdom Hall at 282 Broad Street, Hollis, NH on June 21, Sunday at 4 p.m.
