George Albert Gauthier
George Albert Gauthier of 63 New Dunstable Road in Nashua, NH passed away at age 79 on May 29, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.
Born October 12, 1946, to Rita (Bergeron) and Philippe Gauthier, he grew up in Tyngsboro, MA where he attended and served as an altar boy at the Parish of St. Mary Magdalen. He graduated from Keith Academy in Lowell in 1964, where he played on the football team and performed with the Minstrel Singers.
He then attended University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he played the position of kicker on the football team and earned a history degree. After college, he began a career in education and coaching at various high schools across southern New Hampshire and northeastern Massachusetts. Most notably, he taught various subjects including history, geography, and religious studies at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua for two decades where he also coached freshman and JV basketball, freshman baseball, and varsity soccer. He was extremely proud of coaching the soccer team to back-to-back Class L state championships in 1986-87 and being a perennial title contender. This led to an opportunity to coach soccer at University of Massachusetts Lowell for the 1993-1996 seasons. He also coached for K.C. Jones Basketball Camps and had the great pleasure of meeting and working with Celtics greats including K.C. himself and Robert Parish. He was a great lover of sports and strategy and was fond of saying that you could learn as many lessons on the playing field as you could in the classroom. Throughout his life, he was an avid golfer and won several club championships at Nabnasset Lake Country Club with his partner.
In more recent years, he returned to his love of music and avidly attended coffee house sing-a-longs at the Nashua senior center, performing in their annual showcase. He was a lifelong guitarist and singer, amazing his peers with his deep knowledge of the American songbook. He also excelled at trivia events, earning the nickname “Professor” among his friends at the senior center. At family events when Trivial Pursuit was played, the teams were as follows: the entire family against George. George would win. He also loved puzzles from Wordle, to crosswords to Sudoku and enjoyed challenging his students to play chess without using a board, instead picturing the board and position of pieces in their minds.
He will be remembered for his wit, his intelligence, his faith, and his kind and gentle nature; as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who only wanted to entertain and fill rooms with laughter and joy.
He is survived by his wife Mary Wood-Gauthier of Nashua, NH, stepchildren John Deming and Joanne Wood of New York, NY, and Jim Wood and his wife Julia of Hamden, CT, step grand-children Hugo and Daria Wood; his daughter Tammi Gauthier and grandson Grayson of Arlington, VA., his daughter Nicole Gauthier and her husband Brett Stillman and step-
grandchildren Ezra, Ari and Zach Stillman of Falmouth, ME; his sister Jacqueline Gauthier of Tyngsboro, MA, his brother-in-law Bob Hennessy of St. Albans, ME, a niece and several nephews, and his loving Yorkie-mix Frankie. He is predeceased by his first wife Linda Gauthier, his sister Phyllis Hennessy and his brother Maurice Gauthier.
