Robert Sayles Carter, Sr.

Robert Sayles Carter, Sr., 89, of Nashua, passed away peacefully at his home on May 23, 2026. Born in Hudson on November 29, 1936, he was the son of the late Minnie (Estee) Carter and Clyde Carter.

On March 30, 1957, Robert married the love of his life, Doris Elaine (Stahley), at the First Baptist Church of Nashua, NH. Together they shared nearly 62 wonderful years of marriage before her passing on January 5, 2019.

Robert worked for many years as a machinist, a profession that reflected his strong work ethic and mechanical skill. Outside of work, he enjoyed tackling home repairs, carefully tracking financial investments, and spending winters in Florida. He especially treasured family vacations with his New Jersey relatives and took great pride in cooking holiday meals for those he loved.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Doris; and his brothers, Chet Carter and Lewis Carter.

He is survived by his son, Robert Carter, Jr.; his daughters, Carol Clark of Nashua and Paula Cary and her husband John Cary of Sandown; five grandchildren, Jessica Wine, Lauren Jean, John, Zachary, and Dylan Cary; and four great-grandchildren, Issabella, Sophia, Paisley, and Eli Wine; as well as several nieces and nephews. SERVICES: A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 5-6 pm at the Davis Funeral Home, 1 Lock Street, Nashua, NH. A service will immediately follow at 6 pm.
