Eugene “Skip” Barry Jr.
Eugene “Skip” Barry Jr., 81, of Nashua, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on June 4, 1944, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Eugene Barry Sr. and Margaret (Doyle) Barry.
Skip shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Dolores “Dee” (Ditmore) Barry. Together they built a loving family centered on devotion, laughter, and unwavering support for one another.
For 42 years, Skip dedicated his professional life to education as a college professor at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, formerly Lowell Tech. He was deeply respected by colleagues and students alike for his knowledge, commitment, and passion for teaching.
Outside of his career, Skip found great joy in fishing, watching basketball, and especially attending his children’s basketball games over the years. He was a devoted and enthusiastic Boston sports fan who rarely missed a chance to cheer on his favorite teams.
Skip will be remembered not only for his intelligence but his incredible sense of humor and quick wit which never failed to rise to the occasion.
Skip dedicated his professional life to education as a college analytical chemistry professor and chairman of his department for two consecutive terms. He is also an author of over 100 publications, as well coauthor of several books on Gas Chromatography. Following his retirement, Skip was awarded emeritus professor status in recognition of his many contributions throughout his career. He began his education at Villanova University, followed by attaining his doctorate at University of Rhode Island and concluding with his post graduate degree from the University of Maryland.
In addition to his wife Dee, Skip is survived by his children Eugene Francis Barry III and his wife Dr. Guity Valizadeh of Cambridge, MA, David Christopher Barry and his wife Gail of Nashua, Joy Christine Donovan of Nashua; his grandchildren Natalie Barry and her husband Dr. Alexndru Terbea, David Barry Jr and his fiancé Angela Chernicki, Taylor Barry, Ella Donovan, Peter Donovan, Erica Kelley, and Craig Archambault; his great grandchildren Josiah Barry, Delaney Mckinney, Arianna and Maci Archambault, Blakely Kelley, and Baker Kelley; his sister Mary Lou Jensen and her husband Gary; his brother Michael Barry and his wife Patricia; his sister in law Laura Barry; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother Frank Barry.
Family and friends are invited to his funeral mass on SATURDAY June 13th at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 216 E. Dunstable Road. Interment will follow at St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Home, Health, and
