Dana Hall Merrill

Apr 24, 2026

Dana Hall Merrill, 77, passed away on April 21, 2026, at Maine Medical Center following an accidental fall at his favorite place to be, his camp in Maine. In keeping with his lifelong spirit of generosity, Dana made a selfless live donor contribution with New England Donor Services that will help others for years to come.

Born on July 9, 1948, in Nashua, New Hampshire, Dana was the son of the late Ernest Merrill and Doris (Teachout) Estes and her late husband John Estes. He was the devoted and beloved husband of Florence “Flip” (Hammar) Merrill, with whom he recently celebrated 57 years of marriage.

Dana was educated in the Nashua School System and furthered his skills through numerous vocational courses. Over the years, he built a strong and respected career, working at Centronics, Howtek, Mass Crane, and Protonix. He spent the final 15 years of his career at Presstek before retiring. Even in retirement, Dana remained active, working as a self-employed mechanical specialist with companies such as Protonix and Sheaumann Laser.

An avid outdoorsman, Dana found joy and peace in nature. He loved fishing, hiking, vegetable gardening, and he found joy in long walks in the woods. He was a dedicated runner and a proud member of the Gate City Striders, completing eight marathons over the years. His adventurous spirit also led him to scuba diving an activity he cherished sharing with his daughter and snowmobiling during the winter months.

Above all, Dana’s heart belonged to his camp on Mooselookmeguntic Lake in Maine, a place he treasured since 1982. It was there that he spent countless happy days surrounded by family, friends, and the natural beauty he so deeply loved.

Dana will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family and the outdoors. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched and in the enduring memories he created with those who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife Florence “Flip”, Dana is survived by his daughter Cheryl Huntsinger of Ellenton, FL; his sister Bonnie McCann of Dover; his sisters-in-law; Nancy Farham and her husband Fred of Wells, ME, and Mary LaJoie of Lakeside, CA; several beloved nieces nephews, and many close, dear and lifelong friends. Dana is also survived by his estranged son Joseph Merrill and his family.

Dana was predeceased by his brother William Merrill, and his brothers-in-law, Richard McCann, and John LaJoie.
