Arthur F. Smith, Jr.
Arthur F. Smith, Jr., 81, a longtime Nashua resident, passed away Friday morning, April 17, 2026 after a period of declining health.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on May 21, 1944, he was the son of the late Arthur F. and Lorraine D. (Fortin) Smith. Arthur grew up in Chelmsford, MA and was a graduate of Chelmsford High School Class of 1962. An Army veteran, Mr. Smith played with the 39th Army National Guard Band and held the rank of Sergeant.
Arthur was employed as a financial administrator beginning with Sanders Associates and their successor BAE Systems from 1967 until his retirement in 2005.
A talented musician, Arthur, played Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute and was a member of the Bedford Big Band and the Amherst Town Band. Arthur was an active communicant of Saint Joseph The Worker Parish of Nashua.
Members of his family include his wife, Ann M. (Potry) Smith, whom he married in July of 1966 and shared nearly 60 years together; a son, Arthur F. “Rusty” Smith, III; three grandchildren, Braedon Christopher Smith and his wife, Jordan, Cohen Alexander Smith and Meredith Joy Smith; a sister, Cynthia Bruttaniti; brothers-in-law, Marc Dube and Thomas Jasalavich; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Arthur was predeceased by his son, Christopher M. Smith; two sisters, Cheryl Dube and Beverly Jasalavich; and a brother-in-law, William Bruttaniti.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday, May 5th from 4 to 6 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph The Worker Church, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua, Wednesday, May 6th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst Street, Nashua.
