E. June Johnsen

Apr 7, 2026

E. June Johnsen, 86, longtime resident of Merrimack, NH passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Southern NH Medical Center in Nashua after a brief illness, surrounded by a legacy of love.

She lived the kind of life that leaves a lasting warmth in the hearts of everyone lucky enough to know her. Born in Hope, Rhode Island, on June 9, 1939, to Artemis and Bertha Fleury, she grew up to become a devoted teacher, a generous neighbor, and a beloved matriarch whose spirit touched three generations of her family.

After graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in education — and finding the love of her life, David, along the way — June spent twenty-five fulfilling years shaping young minds at James Mastricola Elementary School. Her students were lucky to have her.

Beyond the classroom, June was the kind of person who made every community she was part of a little brighter. As an active member of St. James United Methodist Church, she served as head of the mission committee, channeling her deep compassion into meaningful outreach. She proudly took part in Dress a Girl Around the World, a mission close to her heart that provides handmade dresses to girls in need across the globe — giving them dignity, hope, and the knowledge that someone cares. A proud member of the Reeds Ferry Women’s Club, she opened her home for holiday gatherings and club meetings, organized specialized gifts for those in need overseas, and filled her church with beautiful floral arrangements she crafted herself. And you would find her every Tuesday at the card table, laughing with her dearest friends.

June is survived by her three children: David Johnsen and his wife Beth of Manchester; Andrew Johnsen and his wife Nicole of Osprey, Florida; and Deborah Johnsen Posner and her husband Stuart Posner of Aventura, Florida. She leaves behind four grandchildren — Courtney Chapman, Bobby, Jake, and Ryan — and six great-grandchildren: Aiden, Brody, Emmalynn, and Cameron Chapman, and Finneus and Seamus Johnsen.

Calling hours will be held at Rivet Funeral Home, 425 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH on Friday April 10th, 2026 from 4 – 7 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church, 646 Daniel Webster Hwy, Merrimack, NH on Saturday April 11th at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Last Rest Cemetery also in Merrimack.
